Barbie Nostalgia! 👱‍♀️

Happy New Year, all! 🎉 Over the break I caught up on some films of the year—one of them the Barbie movie. Which got me thinking about my Barbie days, so I pulled out a few things I’d saved including this Barbie wardrobe.

As a kid, I loved my Barbie “armoire” aka closet with its built in drawers and clever storage compartments on the inner doors. It really spoke to my little organizer’s heart.

Then I started looking through some of the Barbie clothes I saved. Super cute outfits and fun dresses like these in the second pic. Looking at some of them now, I’m thinking they have a bit of a Bob Mackie vibe, lol. Not a surprise pick for me given the style influences of the times. For me, my Barbie dolls, all named by me and none called Barbie, brought a never-ending source of storylines that probably fed into my love of writing.

Which got me wondering if this closet fed my subconscious when creating the Lora Weaver books. For instance, there’s the armoire in Camille’s office at the C&C investigations office. Or Lora’s love of organization with her lists. Or tante Claudette’s sweet, white poodle, Mignon. Or even the fashion. Like which of these dresses would Lora wear? Or Camille?

Looking back is a fun, nostalgic trip down memory lane but also has me wondering—did Barbie play a part in your past? And what outfits do you think Lora and Camille would wear?
